| At one time AEC's Reliance was the one heavyweight alternative chassis to the all-conquering Leyland Leopard. But it was never developed to form a successor. A pity, because the Reliance had a long pedigree behind it, and the possible successor - the rear-engined Sabre - never got beyond the prototype.
But what a chassis the Reliance proved to be with more than 8,000 coaches and a much smaller number of buses being put into service across Britain and a handful of other countries. |
